Feedback for energy efficiency
How distributing feedback over an extended period works better than one-time reminders
Intervention Description
In order to determine the type of feedback that is most likely to reduce electricity use in consumers, the authors attempted to create a psychological framework to understand why feedback might be effective. Although the research suffers from certain restraints, a rough framework was proposed. The framework for successful feedback suggests that the feedback should be distributed often over an extended period of time. Additionally, in the context of electricity consumption, appliance-specific information was useful. Finally, feedback should be presented clearly and in an attractive way. The authors also recommend using interactive technology.
