Framing and vegetable sales
Intervention Description
Many people would prefer to eat healthy food, yet often make unhealthy choices. One possible reason for this is that they don’t consider a healthy option when planning their meal. One study attempted to fix this mental bias by placing pre-cut vegetables next to meat. This not only reminds customers of the option to eat vegetables, but also of the general principle of healthy eating. This intervention was very successful. Sales of these vegetables increased by 61.3%. This increase came at almost no cost of money or resources. This suggests that food preferences are not well-defined, and can be manipulated.
